A medieval superhero

I walked past a round circular hill today which is the legendary burial place where the giant Ferragut was slain by the knight Sir Rollan, usually Roland in English versions. I wonder why we make up stories about how geographical bits of landscape came to be.

 

It is interesting that this story relates to medieval tensions between the west and the middle east.
